Our hands are our tools of expression. They are also pretty hard working – we are constantly using them. We also subject our hands to harsh soaps, detergents minus any moisturiser. As a result, hands feel rough and dry, and look old and tired. In fact, age starts showing on your hands faster than anywhere else. You can avoid this by following our simple, easy-to-follow at-home manicure that keeps your hands soft and smooth in between your professional hand care.
- Start by laying out the tools and products you will need for your mani treat. You will need a nail file, nail buffer, cuticle pusher, nail brush and nail cutter, a bowl of warm water, a cleanser and a hand cream. First remove old nail polish and then trim, clean and file your nails. You can go for the popular oval, square or the squoval (square on top and oval on the sides) shapes. Also, clean and buff your nails.
- Treat your nails by first applying some cream on them and massaging the nail bed. Then take a cuticle pusher to push the cuticles. Avoid cutting them as it can lead to hangnail and infection in the nail bed.
- Now soak you hand in a bowl of warm water to which few drops of your favourite shampoo have been added. Clean your hands and nail with the nail brush. Scrub your hand with a home-made scrub of lemon juice and salt. Rub your hands well. Then wash your hand with cold water to tone your skin.
- Finally, take a generous amount of hand cream and massage it into your hands. Use firm long strokes to massage your fingers and the palms. To soften rough, chapped hands, apply your hand cream, massage, and then wear cotton gloves to allow the product to get thoroughly absorbed into the skin.
